Accessibility: What it is and how we help you achieve it!
Accessibility pertains to what is barrier-free for persons with disabilities. This would include all forms of disabilities; physical, developmental and learning and all forms of barriers; physical, institutional, technological and attitudinal. This applies to direct use of a space, services or products and indirect; which in this context applies to the use of products, service or space using assistive technology and or devices.
At Fulcrum, we aim to help businesses of any nature be as universally designed as they can be and accessible to the entire community. The term "universal design" was coined by the architect Ronald L. Mace to describe the concept of designing all products and the built environment to be aesthetic and usable to the greatest extent possible by everyone, regardless of their age, ability, or status in life ( "Ronald L. Mace on NC State University, College of Design". Design.ncsu.edu.)
How we conduct our business is fairly simple. First, we start with an evaluation of how accessible your business already is using our expertise. This would involve touring your business facility or facilities, inspecting your computer hardware and software (if applicable) and being briefed on your HR policies concerning accommodation in the workplace and hiring. We would then provide you with our evaluation and suggest which sort of assessments your business could benefit from. You the business owner would then decide which assessment services you will be investing in and we help you to understand the process and know the changes need and how to make them make your business as accessible as possible!
